It's said that your highest excitement is your guide to all the experiences you're meant to enjoy. Follow it with passion
I've had the excitement of working casually with a CRCL team here in Prince George... we help people in mental health crisis, we are a peer led team that helps the community of my small city- as equals. We are an alternative that you can call instead of the police. For mental health wellness checks, to vent, to cry, to yell, to make a plan to stay well mentally, physically and emotionally. The reasoning for a community led team is important. As a lot of people carry trauma from the RCMP. Trauma that is old and goes back generations. It follows us into the present day in the form of misuse of violent and unnecessary police violence and RCMP inflicted murders. No matter the race, though from research, mostly People of Colour.
I’m working as a part time youth care worker with the local friendship centre. Which brings me to different locations within my small city. I support and connect with youth in group homes, an assisted living home, an independent living transition complex for young adults who were in government care, and an emergency youth shelter/drop in centre.
When I do this work, I'm in the zone of helping a human being find purpose again. I've been there...for many years... in a wind filled pit of mental health struggle. The amount of respect, and honour that I feel for this work is tremendous.
I was also sent to Vancouver for a short training program for the work I am in. I came back with a boatload of new found confidence in the work I do.
And yeah...the last time i updated ya'll i was studying at our local College. For many reasons, I have decided to take a break from studying social work... but I'll revisit the idea at some later time. Building financial security is a journey, but it also keeps getting better!
I also wonder over the idea of "Will I climb the ladder from here? Or move on and get back to student life ?"
If I go back to study, would it be to complete my artistic passions? To learn to carve and make jewelry? Or complete social work, and possibly learn to facilitate psychedelic medicine assisted therapy? Do I begin studying for a different health and medicine related field? Or maybe even spend my time apprenticing as a tattoo artist?
Or, or, or, or ….
My life is going through changes. But I know from experience that this phase, is happening for a reason. And it will lead me to where I’m meant to be. In divine timing. Pretty soon it will all make sense.
I have so many paths to go down, and maybe the path I choose, other paths I’m interested in will join in. It’s difficult to think about, to plan, to choose. But I also acknowledge this is an immense privilege to have so many options.
Who knows. I sure don't! But I am taking it day by day.
Im happy to have time for all my little hobbies again...and spending time with friends and family and of course ...creating art from my heart! I have the time to market my work and edit things to be more enticing and attract people to my artwork. It feels good.
There are exciting art projects to come, they are in the works but I need to keep it private until I can legally release them with the commissioning business’s approval.
Finally, I’ll finish this blog post with fun news. I’ve had two designs go viral! Check them out if you can, a piece called “Twilight” and another called “Our Boy Jimothy”…. And yes, they are pop culture references that I’ve indingenized. It was pure fun to create these pieces, birthed from funny conversation with friends.
A dash of pop culture always rooted in Indigenous Tradition.
Anyways, lots of love is being sent to all of you, radiating from my heart.
As I take on my biggest creative project yet, the design of my life and career~
